About Me
My name is Andy. When I started a family, I dropped everything to focus on work and providing. I began conflating work success with positive outcomes for my family, which became a vicious cycle that ripped me apart. I put on 50lbs, felt weak, tired and irritable all the time, my stress was through the roof, constant hunger, shitty sleep, etc. This made me less effective at work, so I’d work even harder, which further undermined my health, and so on.
I tried getting back in shape in my late 30s/early 40s doing what worked in my 20s and spent a couple of years getting nowhere, until I started looking into testosterone and its critical role in men's health and fitness. I became like a dog with a bone. I started researching, learning and applying everything I could find on natural ways to improve testosterone. As soon as I started making certain changes to the way I eat, exercise and live to support my own testosterone, everything turned around fast. 8 years in at 47, I'm stronger, leaner and more energetic than I was in my 20s, and have more drive and focus at work than ever.
What’s particularly concerning, though, is that most of the changes I made were the OPPOSITE of what men are generally encouraged to do for health and fitness, and life in general. In the process, I also learned that we are in a true low testosterone epidemic where men today, on average, have about HALF as much testosterone as men the same age did just 50 years ago and that this trend is worsening by about 1% annually. Here you have this hormone that quite literally drives most of the basic parts of men’s health and fitness, and we have far less of it than ever and it’s only getting worse. As you may imagine, the implications for our sons and their sons are quite dire. Adding insult to injury, in 2017 the CDC lowered the reference range for “normal” testosterone, so a lot of guys with “normal” testosterone actually have low testosterone.
But the problem I had, and still have, is that most info on testosterone is either underwhelming and oversimplified to a point of leaving me with more questions, or it’s shrouded in overwhelming scientific detail. So, I wanted to collect all of my notes and translate them into plain English, at the right level of detail for anyone to easily understand, even my 14 year old son.
So I spent the last couple of years for ~10-20min/day jotting down all of my notes and translating all the science and medical jargon into simple terms that pretty much any guy could understand and published them in a series of articles on Medium.com. After a great response to that, I decided to create this website and ebook, with the hope of helping a lot more guys to begin understanding how to improve their own metabolic health and do my part to put a big dent in this low testosterone epidemic.
